Language Arts / Reading
The reading program we use is Common Core's Progress and Houghton Mifflin. This program ensures that all necessary components to improve reading instruction are available to all students. Comprehension passages, and spelling and/or vocabulary words will be sent home everyday for practice. It is very important that your child has practice at home everyday to build their literacy and fluency skills.
Math
The math program we are using is Engage NY.
Religion
The religion program we use in fourth grade is Sadlier's We Believe. We attend mass at the Chapel every Tuesday morning as a class, first Friday Mass as a school, participate in monthly adoration, attend a school retreat, and provide several opportunities to grow as committed Christians.
Science / Social Studies
We use the STEMscopes Science program and the Houghton Mifflin program for Social Studies.
Specialty Classes Schedule:
Coding: Tuesdays
P.E. : Wednesdays. Please make sure that your child wears his or her P.E. uniform on these days.
Music: Thursdays
Spanish: Thursdays
S.T.A.R. Notebook
The STAR Notebook is a system I use to help students get organized and will be a vital tool in parent/teacher communication. This will be their binder that they bring to school and take home every night. It will contain their homework folder and parent folder (notes sent home and papers corrected). Everyone will be expected to use this notebook throughout the entire school year.
Grading
Homework, classwork, tests, quizzes, participation, projects, and behavior will all factor in your child’s overall grades.
Birthdays
If your child would like to celebrate his or her birthday at school, the teacher and the office must be notified at least one day before. I ask that you please limit birthday snacks to just , donuts, brownies, cupcakes, or cookies and 100% juice or water.
Classroom Rules
Please see the 4th Grade Contract. This can be found in your child’s STAR Notebook.
Discipline Plan
In order to keep a positive classroom learning environment, I will recognize students who choose to follow the classroom rules. Students who follow the classroom rules earn:
POSITIVE RECOGNITION
1. Caught Being Good (individual): Receive tickets that can be used at Ms. Marasco’s CBG Store.
2. If students receive an "Awesome" at the end of the day, they will receive two CBG tickets.
If a student chooses to break a classroom or school rule, they will receive the following consequences. The consequences are listed in the order a student may receive them in a single day. Every day the student begins with a fresh start!
CONSEQUENCES
1. After a verbal warning, a student will change their color from green (good) to yellow. A note will be sent home.
2. If a student continues to be disruptive or uncooperative, they will change their color to orange.
3. If behavior persists, the student will change their color to red and this will lead to a misconduct slip.
* Three misconducts merit an after-school detention. Three detentions in a trimester will merit a suspension.
4. If a child receives more than two red cards, a mandatory parent-teacher conference will be held.
In the event that a serious behavior incident occurs, the student may receive a misconduct slip and/or will be sent directly to the Principal’s office.
Please Note: Changing cards and misconduct slips affect a student’s behavior grade. The color card your child earned each day can be found in their agenda.
Uniform
Students who are out of uniform will receive an OUT OF UNIFORM slip. Three slips will result in an after-school detention. Please refer to the Parent/Student handbook for proper uniform attire. The formal uniform includes a navy tie and a button-up shirt for both boys and girls. Boys are not allowed to wear shorts with their formal uniform and must wear pants. Formal uniform will be worn on first Friday Masses and on special occasions.
Tardies/ Absences
Students will be considered tardy if they are not in the classroom by 8:01 a.m. After six tardies, students will be sent to detention. Please refer to the Parent/Student handbook.
When students are absent from school, parents are required to notify the school office by phone no later than 8:30 a.m. and submit a written excuse the following day.
The Archdiocese has implemented a new attendance policy for all schools.
* Medical absences are no longer considered excused absences.
* Students who are up to 30 minutes late are considered LATE.
* Students who leave within 30 minutes of dismissal will be marked as Leaving Early.
* Students arriving to school after 8:30 a.m. will be marked as a Morning Absence.
* Students leaving school before 2:30 p.m. will be marked as an Afternoon Absence.
Visitors
All visitors including parents who desire to contact a student or teacher must check in the office FIRST to receive authorization.
Contacting the Teacher
I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or concerns at any time of the school year. The best way to contact me is through e-mail, which is [email protected]. I check my e-mail everyday in the evenings. You can also send me notes through your child’s STAR Notebook, which will be checked daily or leave a message for me in the office and I will return your call at my earliest convenience.
